After reading about Table on Ten on Design Tripper and hearing rave reviews from my good friends and trusted travel gurus Bernadette Pascua (of Decade Diary – read her incredible post here!) & Claire Mazur of Of A Kind.
The inn and restaurant in Bloomville, NY is owned by ex-city dwellers Justus Kempthorne (a carpenter) and Inez Valk-Kempthorne (a model turned self-taught chef). The couple has put their blood, sweat, tears, and love into the place and it shows: the cafe features salvaged oak floor boards and and a wood-firing pizza oven and the rooms are impeccably decorated with claw foot tubs, old rugs, and stacks of Wilder and Kinfolk magazines.
Peter & I headed up to Bloomville on a Friday in April. After three and a half hour journey, we were hungry and beat, but stepping into Table on Ten was like entering an oasis of calm and comfort: pizzas were firing, the neighbors were opening bottles of red wine, and the setting was divine:
I fell in love with our third floor room, which featured a clawfoot tub, exposed beams, and wide wood plank floors:
Peter and I could have stayed there forever: reading, working, and lounging it was serene and comfortable. Justus and Inez’s beautiful, rustic touches like handmade beds and grain sack pillows made the place all the more special:
Our room was rivaled only by the inn’s food. Breakfast included Irving Farm lattes, divine Meyer lemon marmalade on buttered toast (bliss for this toast connoisseur), and local eggs fried with 4 hour marinara. For dinner we couldn’t get enough of the pizzas – the mascarpone, prosciutto and arugula was out of this world. And I ate more of the freshly made pies than I’d like to admit.
What a heavenly weekend. We are so impressed with what Justus and Inez have created: the perfect escape for us city folk and the perfect meeting place for the Bloomville community. We can’t wait to return.
